HST 1014 Syllabus

Course description: This course will examine the political, social/cultural, and economic, and military events that dominated western history from 1787 through the present. Lectures, film clips, group discussions, and the textbooks will all help in the student’s understanding of western history during this time period.
Textbooks: Students are expected to come to class having read the material. This means that the textbooks- yes there are two (the main one is the Western Civilization: Volume C 8th edition; the other is the Taking Sides text).
Exams: There are two take home exams during the semester. The exams will be handed out ona Wednesday and will be due the following class (a Monday). There will be two take home exams. Each exam will include 3 essays (each is worth 50) and 25 true/false and multiple choice questions (2 points each). Each exam is worth 200 points. There will be a 5 point deduction each day the exam is late. Exams will be available on Blackboard on Monday and must be e-mailed to me/posted by Friday.
