US History 1031- Through 1877

Course description:
Students through the use of lectures, film clips, group activities and exams will learn about US History from the arrival of the ancestors of the Native Americans through the reconstruction of the US immediately following the Civil War.
Textbooks: Both the Enduring Vision: Volume I book and the documents book are required for this class.
Students are expected to have read the chapters prior to coming to class.

Tests:
There will be two take home exams. Each exam will include 3 essays and 25 true/false and multiple choice questions. Each exam is worth 200 points. There will be a5 point deduction each day the exam is late. Exams will be handed out on a Thursday and due the next class which is a Tuesday.
Technology:
Cell phones will be left on vibrate when in class. Laptops are for note taking only. Failure to abide by these rules is a 5 point deduction each time I see (or hear) these rules being broken.
Private conversations are also rude and unwarranted- they are a distraction to the rest of the class. The points deductions mentioned above also apply to this disturbance.
Grade scale:
Grade scale is based on the total number of points earned over the course of the semester.
400 points total
400-300=A
299-198=B
197-96=C
95-54=D
53-0=F
